Fall 2007

Construction is coming along extremely smoothly at Hammarskjold where more than 60% of the project is complete! We will be ready to open our new building in September of 2008. Currently, most of the outside structure of the building is complete. All that remains is to install framing and glass to the windows.  The next phase will include completing all interior facilities: classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, media center, the new 1000-seat auditorium, and cafeteria. We are very excited as we prepare for the final year of construction at Hammarskjold!

A reminder to parents that pick up and drop off is designated along Rues Lane. We appreciate your patience during this final year of construction while the campus is only accessible to our large fleet of busses and staff.

Thank you!

**NOTE: All parent pick up and drop off will be along Rues Lane next to the school boundary, where it is designated as a no parking area. This will allow students to safely enter the campus. PARENT VEHICULAR ACCESS INSIDE THE CAMPUS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED FOR PICK UP OR DROP OFF DURING REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS in order to manage student safety and traffic flow. For students who are bussed, there will be both administrators available and teachers assigned to assist students as they enter and exit busses and for supervision of both the morning drop off and afternoon pick up.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Hammarskjold construction project is well underway and though things look significantly different on the outside, there has been and will continue to be relatively little impact to the inside of the current building throughout the two years of construction. Student drop-off and pick-up procedures will be affected with the opening of school and will change over time as the construction progresses. Inside the building it will be business as usual for students and staff.

With the opening of school, the following will occur:

  • The majority of the buses will be re-routed from where the former parking lot was located to a new road and parking area on the opposite side of the building.

  • Some buses and vans will travel through the U-shaped parking area at the front of the school to drop-off and pick-up students.

  • Parents will be directed to drop-off and pick-up their children in the Rues Lane cut out in front of the school. There will be appropriate signage dictating that area as a no parking zone.

  • Once parents have dropped-off they should proceed as directed. Traffic officers will be strictly enforcing traffic flow in the area in order to relieve congestion and crossing guards will safely direct walkers across Rues Lane.

Any changes in these procedures will be posted on the website at www.ebnet.org. Select the link for Hammarskjold School under Construction Updates for the most current information including diagrams for those of you that share my visual learning style. Thank you for working with us, remembering that any inconvenience will be well worth it as the East Brunswick community looks forward to a new, state of the art middle school.

Regards,

Mike Gaskell, Hammarskjold Principal
