Welcome to Miss Bates & Mr. Ciraco's Second Grade website!

Please remember to send your child in with a healthy snack packed separately from his/her lunch every day. Only water is allowed for a drink in our classroom in order to minimize sticky spills and any creepy crawlies that may follow. We will usually have a working snack, which means it is important for students to have something they can eat while doing schoolwork. Thank you for your cooperation!

Whenever a book order is sent home, we ask that you place your order by the end of that month. We usually do not place my order until a total order amount is $20 because that allows for free shipping. If we submit an order less than $20, shipping is not free of charge. You can place your order online by going to Scholastic.com and entering our class code which is HN8GY, or you can use the following link:  https://orders.scholastic.com/HN8GY. You can also place an order by using the order form contained within the monthly flyer and sending in a check with your child. Please do not send in cash.

Several of you were interested in educational apps that are used in the classroom. For personal use, the CommonCore app, which has all of the new curriculum standards in it, is very user friendly.
For math, many of the Everyday Math apps that are published by McGraw-Hill are great. Some of the best ones are Top-It addition and subtraction, 1-6 Facts Multiplication Baseball, and Tric-Trac. Scholastic also publishes some math apps- a great one (and a student favorite) is SushiMonster.  McGraw-Hill also makes Grammar Wonderland and Bluster which are both Language Arts apps. You can also download the Running Record calculator for reading- although you won't use it the same way we would in class, your child can record his/her reading aloud and listen to it play back which can help build fluency.
