Mr. Michael Vinella, Supervisor
Mr. John Blair, Department Chairperson, Grades 8-12

Each school has a media center with print and electronic materials that support the curriculum. All media centers have multimedia stations, the capability of broadcasting through the school, and extensive collections of fiction, non-fiction and periodicals appropriate to the grade levels in the school.

In grades three though twelve, students are required to do research related to their work in media, English, social studies and science. In addition to technological resources, books and other printed materials are an essential part of the research process. Students also are encouraged to read for pleasure.

Each elementary school has a computer laboratory adjacent to the media center. Students are taught basic keyboarding, how to use various types of software, and how to access information from a variety of technological and print sources, including the Internet. The students continue to build on these skills as they progress through the secondary schools. The emphasis is on technology as a tool for learning in all subject areas. Technology supports the instructional process – it is not an end in itself.

All eleven media centers have an automated catalogue and circulation system, enabling students to conduct a computer search of their school’s media collection. All schools are connected to the INFOLINK Regional Union Catalog, which provides an opportunity for students to access and borrow from the collections of all public and school libraries in the region. The media centers are integral links in the district’s technological infrastructure, a state-of-the-art network that carries voice, video and data simultaneously at high speeds. The network provides students with quick access to the Internet and a vast array of educational opportunities.
